Equity Commitment
The Portland Parks Foundation works with, and for, everyone.
We believe vibrant parks, public spaces, and natural areas are essential
to the public, civic and cultural health of all.
That’s why we prioritize projects that engage marginalized groups*
too long denied meaningful roles in shaping our city.
In these efforts, we commit to being accountable
by measuring and reporting our progress.
Equity Values
Community: We value the voices, culture, intellect, vision and multi-dimensionality of communities and will reflect these values in our decision-making
Equitable Access: We value the most equitable and broadest access to our parks and open spaces by prioritizing historically marginalized communities and groups
Collaboration: We value insights, relationships, and holistic understandings that are deepened when people with divergent perspectives work together
Transformation: We value the ability of individuals and systems to change in ways that make equitable outcomes possible. We celebrate and support the sustained work necessary to achieve such growth and change.
* We define historically marginalized groups as anyone who has experienced inequities as a result of their class, race, ethnicity, citizenship status, nationality, disability, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation or age. We recognize that this list is not comprehensive and strive to prioritize all groups that experience inequities as a result of how they identify or are identified by others.
